Icon meme

Rules:
1. Reply to this post with "UNICORNS", and I will pick five of your icons.
2. Make a post (including the meme info) and talk about the icons I chose.
3. Other people can then comment to you and make their own posts.
4. This will create a never-ending cycle of icon glee.

Never-ending is right...I'm pretty sure I've done this a few times, lol. But it's all fun, so I'll probably keep doing them XD Anyway, these are the icons [livejournal.com profile] rose_of_pollux asked about:

This icon was made for me by [livejournal.com profile] netbug009, taken from the Pokemon Mystery Dungeon: Explorers of Sky - Beyond Time and Darkness special anime episode. In both the episode and the game, Grovyle is one of my top favorite characters, I really wanted an icon of him. This picture was of the best ones, taken from the saddest and my favorite scene in the episode. So Net was kind enough to make it an icon for me.

My icon of Chris Kratt from Wild Kratts, a show that I'm too old for but enjoy way too much anyway. I wanted to have an icon of Chris, my favorite brother, and I needed a face-palm icon for all those kind of moments. So I made this one because...well, why not? Heehee.

I have this weird little thing I do, where I try to have one icon from each of my fandoms - just one, unless the fandom itself has multiple versions of it (e.g., Sonic the Hedgehog, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles). And generally (but not always), I try to get an icon from my favorite character in that fandom. So one day, when I was looking for a good Ryou icon to add to my collection, I found the image from the very beginning of Yu-Gi-Oh, when everyone's souls had been trapped in cards. And...I don't know why, but Ryou's expression as the Change of Heart card here just really gets to me. So here it is. I generally use it for those moments when I'm kind of down about something...not sad, just...down. If that makes any sense.

When it comes to Once Upon a Time, I'll admit that I'm kind of eh about it. I like the idea, and I want to watch it, but I just never work up enough interest to go watch it. Not even record it on the DVR. The only episodes I have seen from beginning to end is the second episode, and the one where they introduce the idea of RumBelle. Seeing as how Beauty and the Beast is my favorite movie of all time, the idea of RumBelle, with Rumpelstiltskin taking the role of the Beast, kind of fascinated me. So I like having this icon that kind of compares the Disney movie with RumBelle.

Haha, not much to be said about this one. Luigi is my favorite from the Mario franchise, and the V-for-victory sign was just too good to pass up. I use this icon when I feel like I've accomplished something...not even necessarily big things. Just if I feel a sense of personal accomplishment, like if I've actually written for a story I've been meaning to update, or if I feel proud about something.

I was tagged by [livejournal.com profile] starvingartist3 on DeviantArt. So here we go!

Rules:

1. You must post these rules.
2. Answer the questions the tagger set for you, then create ten new questions for the people you tag to answer.
3. You have to choose 10 new people to tag and post their icons in your journal.
4. Go to their pages and tell them you have tagged them.
5. No tag backs.
6. No stuff about "Oh, you're tagged if your reading this," it's a waste of time to me. Just go ahead and surprise 10 and only 10 people.

Here are [livejournal.com profile] starvingartist3's questions:

1) Your favorite book from childhood?

I remember really liking this one book called Teacher's Pet by Johanna Hurwitz. I checked it out of my school's library a lot. I'm not sure why I liked it so much, but I read it as often as I could, haha.

2) What couples are you currently shipping?

Haha, too many. A lot of them are Power Rangers-related at the moment; Tommy/Kim, Billy | Phantom Ranger/Cassie, Kevin/Mia. I've also got Monty Monogram/Vanessa Doofenshmirtz from Phineas and Ferb, Dipper/Wendy from Gravity Falls, Naoki/Ayane and Kanji/Rise from Persona 4, and Dave/Jade from Homestuck.

3) Fave animal/anthro hero/crimefighter?

Um...do I just pick one? Let's see...nope, I'm just gonna make a list XD

Antauri from Super Robot Monkey Team Hyperforce Go!, Exile from Road Rovers, Tech from Loonatics Unleashed, Burble from Danger Rangers, Donatello from Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Crane from Kung Fu Panda, Perry the Platypus from Phineas and Ferb, Bernard from The Rescuers Down Under, Tails from the Sonic the Hedgehog franchise, Razor from SWAT Kats, Jake from Adventure Time, Mordecai from Regular Show...do Pokemon count? Because if they do, I'd also say Eevee, haha.

Hmm...I just noticed...the first four characters I mentioned are all voiced by Kevin Micheal Richardson...huh...

4) If you were chosen to serve as an emissary to a group of visiting aliens from space, how would you prepare for the situation?

Hmm...I suppose I would try to learn about the aliens that are visiting, if I can. Then I would think and write down things we could discuss. And then I would panic...

5) Are there any fandoms that you dislike?

Well, I'm not a big fan of the Twilight fandom (most of the fans are annoying). I...can't really think of any others at the moment, but I know there's more...

6) If you could meet one fictional character, then what character would that be and why?

Hmm...for some reason, I could only think of Captain America. I just think he'd be a really nice guy to meet ^^;;

7) Do you prefer sunny days or rainy days?

Living in a desert as I do, I kind of like rainy days. Though it's hard when it gets really humid...

8) What do you think of music from the 1980's?

It's pretty good. I'm not super crazy about it, but I do like some music from the 80s.

9) Do you think Bigfoot really exists?

Sure, why not?

10) Fave genre to write about?

It seems to be Drama, for some reason. *shrugs*

All right, now I have to make up questions, right? Let's see...

1) What song is your current favorite?
2) If you could go back in time and had to change one thing that happened in your life, what would that be?
3) Dogs or cats, and why?
4) What kind of things draw you to a fandom?
5) What's something you hate/dislike?
6) Favorite superhero?
7) What's a food item you're sure you can't live without?
8) What's something that you would love to do (no matter how impossible it is)?
9) If you were to live in one of your favorite fandoms for the rest of your life, what fandom would you choose?
10) If you could have a super power, what would it be?

I know it says that we have to tag people, but I don't really like tagging people...So I guess whoever wants to do it is free to ^^;;
walkyourownway: (Sleepy Ninja)
So in a few hours, my siblings and I have to get up so we can make the five hour drive back home, thus ending our vacation. It was a lot of fun - before, during, and after Comic Con. I'll post another entry with highlights from the trip sometime later (because there were a lot of things that I want to mention, heehee).

In the meantime, I noticed that I only got one request for the Drabble Request Meme I put up a while back (which is...one more request than I expected, honestly). But I thought I'd give it another chance before posting up the result. So if anyone has any requests, feel free to let me know and I'll get working on it.

So that's about it for the moment. Now, I'm going to procrastinate packing my things away by watching Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire before heading to bed. Night all!
walkyourownway: (Crane writing)
This is probably a bad time to do this, since I'm going on vacation today and will be gone for a week. But I was inspired by [livejournal.com profile] rose_of_pollux. And hoping this'll get me out of my writing funk, I've decided to give this a try...again.

Considering no one requested anything the last time I did, though, I'm not expecting much this time around...heheh...

Give me a first line, or last line, and I'll write a drabble for it.

No higher than PG-13, please. And I can only write het pairings if you ask for romance. As for fandoms...um...well, since I haven't really done anything lately, I can't say for sure what I'd be willing to write. Hmm...

So uh...maybe request three different fandoms? Preferably one from my fandom and shipping list, and most probably one that I've already written before, and I'll see what I can come up with for the line (or lines, maybe a line for each fandom? If you want to do that, that's fine too).

If I do get requests, I'll try to check for them sometime during the week while I'm gone. Goodness knows I'll need something to do while waiting in all those lines I'm going to be standing in...

Anyway, that's about it, I guess. See you all when I get back!

The iPod Shuffle Meme

No, not that one. Let's be honest, when we need inspiration, the first place we go is our music library. So let's try something a little bit different. My music library is no help to me, but maybe it can be for someone else. Here's how this thing works:

1) Comment to this post, and I'll give you a prompt in the form of whatever song shuffles up next on whatever music player I've got going at the time.

2) Turn on the music player of your choice to shuffle, post this to your own journal and dole out prompts. No, you can't hide your shameful music. If it shuffles up, that's the gig.

3) Write/draw/whatever way you create for the prompt you've been given: post it. Again, no hiding the shame. Even if you think it's awful, post it.

4) Link your finished product to the prompt comment, because it's always lovely to see the results.'
walkyourownway: (Sleepy Ninja)
Rules:
→ You must post these rules.
→ Each person must post 11 things about themselves in their journal.
→ Answer the questions the tagger set for you in their post, and create eleven new questions for the people you tag to answer.
You have to choose 11 people to tag and link them on the post.
(Eh, I won't make anyone do it. If you want to, feel free to go ahead ^^)

Questions from [livejournal.com profile] rose_of_pollux
1. What was your first fandom?

Hmm...well usually I answer Dragon Ball Z, but I think that was the first fandom I ever wrote for. Technically, I think my first fandom ever was Sailor Moon. That's the one where I first discovered fanfiction and looking up fansites about it over the internet, haha.

2. What is your most recent fandom?
I think I'd have to say Persona 4. It's been waning a little bit recently, but I still love it so much. I really wish I could write more for this one.

3. Ever rediscovered an old fandom of yours?
Oh most definitely. The best one I can think of at the moment is Road Rovers. It was a short cartoon series that only lasted one season, but I loved it as a kid. And one day for some reason I was looking into it again. Then I started writing fanfics for it...heh...

4. What is your favorite dessert?
This is a tough one, to be honest. I have such a sweet tooth, haha. But if I had to pick...maybe green tea ice cream?

5. What is your favorite animal?
The wolf. I love wolves so much, they're just amazing creatures.

6. What is your favorite fictional (fandom) creature?
The fire ferret from the Avatar world. I mean, just look at this thing!

Isn't it cute? ^^

7. What is your favorite mythical (non-fandom) creature?
I've been developing a fondness for phoenixes, though specifically the Chinese Fenghuang, recently.

8. What is your guilty pleasure fandom?
Ehehe...probably Wild Kratts more than anything. I know the shows for little kids, but I can't help watching it. It's so nostalgic and cute.

9. Ever enjoy a fandom that you never thought you'd even like?
Ahahaha....too many, I think. I blame my brother for most of them.

10. What old fandom of yours will you always return to?
Let's see...Yu Yu Hakusho, Sonic the Hedgehog, and/or Super Robot Monkey Team are all good contenders. Though to be honest, anything I've written for is liable to find its way back into my life...I'm doomed...

11. What do you look for in/what attracts you to a fandom?
Psssssh...I look? XD I honestly have no idea. Characters I find interesting are the most likely targets I think, though I have been known to get involved in a fandom strictly for a pairing. It's true, I admit, haha.

11 Questions for anyone who's interested )
walkyourownway: (Christmas treats)
Step One

- Make a post (public, friendslocked, filtered...whatever you're comfortable with) to your LJ. The post should contain your list of 10 (or however many you like) holiday wishes. The wishes can be anything at all, from simple and fandom-related ("I'd love a Snape/Hermione icon that's just for me") to medium ("I wish for _____ on DVD") to really big ("All I want for Christmas is a new car/computer/house/TV.") The important thing is, make sure these wishes are things you really, truly want.

- If you wish for real life things (not fics or icons), make sure you include some sort of contact info in your post, whether it's your address or just your email address where Santa (or one of his elves) could get in touch with you.

- Also, make sure you post some version of these guidelines in your LJ, or link to this post (it'll be public) so that the holiday joy will spread.

Step Two

- Surf around your friendslist (or friendsfriends, or just random journals) to see who has posted their list. And now here's the important part:

- If you see a wish you can grant, and it's in your heart to do so, make someone's wish come true. Sometimes someone's trash is another's treasure, and if you have a leather jacket you don't want or a gift certificate you won't use--or even know where you could get someone's dream purebred Basset Hound for free--do it.

You needn't spend money on these wishes unless you want to. The point isn't to put people out, it's to provide everyone a chance to be someone else's holiday elf--to spread the joy. Gifts can be made anonymously or not--it's your call.

There are no rules with this project, no guarantees, and no strings attached. Just...wish, and it might come true. Give, and you might receive. And you'll have the joy of knowing you made someone's holiday special.

Not that I'm expecting anything, to be honest, haha. And no one really has to get me anything. ^_^ But it's just in case people are maybe thinking of getting me anything, here's a list that might help narrow down the choices XD

And now for a bit of self-indulgence... )

*whistles* Wow, that list turned out longer than I thought it would...um...like I said, you don't have to get me anything. ^^;;

In honor of All Hallow's Eve, I'm inviting trick-or-treaters to my 'door.' Comment "trick-or-treat" to this post and...well, you know the drill. Treats can be anything that strikes my fancy (pics of fave actors or pairings, one sentence fics, graphics, a few words why I'm glad to have you on my flist, etc. etc.). The more "houses" to visit the more fun it'll be, so go ahead, open your journal and help spread the fun!

You Are Charming

You're by no means generic or ordinary. In fact, you're one of the most original people around.

You are charming in a steady, subtle, and thoughtful way. Your charms are effective, but they take time.

You are content and happy-go-lucky. You believe that life is truly sweet.

You can't help but be keenly aware of the environment around you. You are attentive and perceptive.

Day 27 – Where is your favorite place to write, and do you write by hand or on the computer?

Well, I like writing wherever I can, and as long as I'm comfortable I can write just about anywhere. But I guess if I had to pick a place, I'd say in my room. It's just my safe, familiar place where I can settle into my own little world.

Technically, I do both. I first write a rough draft by hand, getting down the words and thoughts as they flow. If I write something and I don't like how it sounds, then I write how it first comes out in my head and then make a note to fix it later. Then I transfer the story from my notebook to my computer, rewriting it as I type it, polishing it up and fixing anything else I don't like about it. It takes a while to finishing writing something, but I think it's worth the effort.

The List )
walkyourownway: (Numbuh 1)
Day 25 – Music – Do you listen to music while you write? Do you make playlists to get into a certain "mood" to write your fic? Do you need noise in general? Or do you need it completely quiet?

Oh yeah, I love listening to music when I write. Though I don't usually mind writing with anything, be it general noise like music or the TV in the background, or even complete silence. I've written in all different kinds of noise environments. But I definitely prefer listening to music when I write. I don't normally have a playlist to help the mood for my fics, but there have been a few times when I've made playlists with songs that I think relate to whatever I'm currently writing.

The List )
walkyourownway: (WTF)
Is it really possible to be annoyed with your own brain? Because I really am. Not in an angry way (well...not really), but just more of a "wut is this, I don't even..." kind of way. I mean...honestly, Brain? Why are you doing this to me?

There are two reasons for the my personal WTF-ery today.

#1:

A few days ago I was getting ready for work, and as I was eating breakfast I was watching a little TV when I noticed that the old Wild Thornberrys movie was on one of the movie channels. Anyone remember that show? About a girl who talks to animals, her family travels the world for her dad's documentary show...? *ahem* Anyway, so I was watching a little of it, because I honestly haven't seen the movie since it first came out when I was a kid. And, curious idiot that I am, I decide to record it so I can catch the ending before I leave for work. When I got the time, I finished the movie...and quickly remembered why I didn't like it the first time I watched it.

To be honest, I was never a real big Wild Thornberrys fan. I mean, I did like the idea of it. It appealed to the kid in me who wished to talk to animals myself, and who imagined growing up traveling the world and studying animals too. I also did enjoy a few choice episodes (particularly, any of the ones where Eliza got to spend some quality time with her father, Nigel). But it wasn't my favorite show ever, and I only ever watched it when nothing else was on...and only occasionally. I can't even remember why I went to see the movie the first time, let alone deciding to watch it those few days ago.

But somehow, as I was watching the movie this time around, I was surprised to be drawn to Eliza and Darwin's friendship, particularly during the time when Eliza lost her ability to talk to animals. And...wouldn't ya know it? I somehow got a story idea about it! *facepalm*

Cut because even I'm embarrassed by this... )

Thinking about the story in my head, it might be kind of cute. I took a glance at the Wild Thornberry section on FF.net, and friendship fics between Eliza and Darwin are rather lacking. But...seriously?! How the heck did this happen?!

#2

So...there's this guy. We're friends, and I love him a lot. But I also...kinda sorta like him too. I don't think anything will work out between us, though, so I've never wanted to attempt anything. Plus, it's one of those cliche moments where I love him too much to risk losing our friendship, yadda yadda yadda. But that doesn't stop me from imagining things were different, and wondering what it'd be like if the two of us ever really got together.

And he has this...this scent about him. Gah, that sounds really weird and I feel really embarrassed for saying it. But there's this scent I pick up whenever we're a little too close to each other, and it's...it's nice. I can't really describe it, but it's nice, and I like it a lot.

Well, at work today, I kept catching a similar scent. It wasn't exactly the same, but it was close enough that it got me thinking about him whenever I caught it, and I would sometimes drift off into my little imaginary world. And you know how sometimes when you're daydreaming, you get little images that you don't intend to think of, but they just pop up all of a sudden and you wonder where the hell they came from?

Such an image popped up today, as I caught the scent once again and suddenly found myself visualizing that the guy and me were married, and we had a daughter.

...What?!

Dear Brain, you are in danger of being shut down due to weirdness. Please stop before action must be taken. Thank you.

Anyway, I'm going to try distracting myself from disturbing thoughts with writing a new Phineas and Ferb fic. Wish me luck.

But first, the Fanfic Writing meme.

Day 23 – When you post, where do you post to? Just your journal? Just an archive? Your own personal site?

The most common place I post my stuff is on my FF.net profile. However, I am working on putting all the stories I've ever written (including ones not on FF.net) on this journal (backdated, of course). And I have a few selected stories that I plan on putting on my DA account. We'll see how that goes, though.

The List )
walkyourownway: (Mondays)
Day 22 – Have you ever participated in a fest or a Big Bang? If so, write about your favorite experience in relation to one. If not, are there any you've thought about doing? And if not, why not?

Not really. I mean, I know I haven't participated in a Big Bang. Bur I'm not sure about a fest. I don't think I have, at least I don't think any of the writing challenges at [livejournal.com profile] atlaland were ever fests. So no, I haven't. Mostly because I've never looked for a fest or a Big Bang to participate in. I'm not even sure if I'd want to.

The List )

In other news, I'm pretty happy because I found a place that is selling butter-flavored pretz. I haven't seen these in stores for a really long time. And I know butter-flavored...anything sounds pretty gross, but trust me when I say these things are amazing. They taste like pancakes, and they're just so good.

Also, I heard a little news about the new Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles series that Nick is releasing next year. Hmm...I mean, I love Rob Paulsen and everything, but I have no idea how I feel about him voicing Donatello (I have a feeling I'm just going to keep thinking of Raphael every time Donnie speaks...). I'm curious to hear Greg Cipes as Michelangelo and Mae Whitman as April, though.

But for crying out loud, why did they replace Donnie's bo with a naginata?! Donnie wielding a bladed weapon feels like such a betrayal of his character! Then again, Mikey's got kusarigama instead of nunchaku, but Donnie's weapon change feels more wrong somehow...
walkyourownway: (Pretty)
Day 21 – Sequels – Have you ever written a sequel to a fic you wrote, and if so, why, and if not, how do you feel about sequels?

Yeah, I've written sequels to other fics before. Not a lot, mind you. But if I come up with an idea that I feel can relate to a previous story of mine, and I feel it's interesting enough or I want to continue with a previous idea, then I don't mind writing a sequel. I tend to notice that sequels never seem to do as well as the first one, but then again that's a general fact of things that have sequels...with a few exceptions, of course.

The List )
walkyourownway: (Sleepy Ninja)
Day 20 –Do you ever get bunnied from other people's stories or art in the same fandom?

Sure, it's been known to happen. Sometimes I'll read a person's story and really like the idea, so I'll end up trying my take on it or try to figure out how it'd work. Or I'll see a piece of art and try to think of a scenario where the instance in the picture could happen. I...am easily inspired, I guess. Or distracted, haha.

The List )
walkyourownway: (Pucca)
Day 19 – When you have bunnies, do you sit down and start writing right away, or do you write down the idea for further use?

I usually write down the idea for further use. Writing the idea down usually helps me develop it more, and I like taking the time to figure most of the story out before actually starting to write it. This can be a problem sometimes because I might never finish figure things out...but if I can get enough details to use, then it helps me plan a better story out.

I also like writing down the idea since my inspiration tends to frequently shift from one fandom to another. If I write the idea down, then I still have the idea somewhere in case I switch one fandom for another, but come back to the previous fandom at a later time...though usually with a lot more plot bunnies in tow...I hate how fast bunnies multiply, haha.

But yes, I actually have a document with all my story ideas written down. It's...long....teehee.

Day 18 – Where do you get the most inspiration for your fics (aka "bunnies") from?

Hmm...that's actually a pretty good question. I mean, I can get inspiration from anything; songs, images or pictures, things people have said, other stories people have written...the fandom that the story is based on, haha.

But where I get the most inspiration for plot bunnies? I think...it might actually be the characters themselves. When I'm watching or reading something, something about a character might strike my attention. I might start wondering why they did a certain action and try to explain it, or I might think about how they would interact with certain other characters, or how they would react and respond to a certain type of situation, etc. I may speculate about the character's background and write my own take on it, or I might be curious about the character and want to get inside their head, trying to figure out how they think.

Yeah...I think that would be the answer for that question, haha. I get most of my inspiration for plot bunnies from the characters.
