Notes: A Valentine’s Day fic I wrote for zumidotexe. Just some cute fluff to celebrate a day for love.

Summary: Not all Valentine’s Day plans need to be fancy. And who said long-distance relationships never work?

Fluttershy had just gotten out of the shower when she heard the familiar alert of a message on her Creature Pod. Not even bothering to dry herself off yet, she quickly tiptoed into the bedroom, dripping a path along the floor as she went for her nightstand where the soft pink device rested.

Drying her hands, she picked it up to read the message, which despite being sent from Chris’ Creature Pod, the subject line read, “Actual picture of Chris right now.” She rolled her eyes slightly in amusement; Martin must have gotten ahold of it.

So she opened the message, revealing an image of a bleeding heart dove. But the picture had been drawn over in a cartoon-ish fashion so that the dove had been given Chris’ hair, and large blue tear drops fell from its eyes. There was also a word bubble coming from the dove that read, “I miss you.”

She couldn’t help but giggle a little, and replied with a simple “lol” before heading back to the bathroom to actually dry off, this time bringing the Creature Pod with her.

After she had gotten dressed, her Creature Pod chimed again. She had to put her brush down to read the newest message.

Sorry about that. Martin was messing with my Creature Pod, and I didn’t realize what he was up to.

With a small smile, she texted back.

haha, that’s okay. is that bleeding heart dove picture new?

This time she managed to get the brush through her hair a few times before his next response.

Yeah! Took it just yesterday while we were looking for the Philippine eagle. I was planning to send it to you anyway, before Martin messed it up.

She took a moment to braid her hair back before replying.

so you guys are in the philippines right now?

Taking her Creature Pod, she headed back into the bedroom to clean up the wet trail she’d left on the carpet. A few seconds later, the chime rang in the room.

Yup. How about you? You home yet?

yeah. just need a few minutes to get settled.

Once she was finished drying the floor, she tossed the towels back into the bathroom. She barely had a chance to pick her Creature Pod up again when it suddenly started ringing, this time for a phone call.

With a small shake of her head she accepted the phone call, giving the hologram of Chris that projected from the screen a wry smile. “I said a few minutes…”

Chris simply grinned. “Couldn’t wait. Happy Valentine’s Day…”

Her own smile softened. “Happy Valentine’s Day.” Then a giggle. “Though I guess it’s already the fifteenth over there, huh?”

He shrugged. “Well, it’s the thought that counts.” He then blinked, looking at her curiously. “Are you in your pajamas?”

Fluttershy placed the Creature Pod on the foot of the bed, feet propped up on the pillows as she lay on her stomach, supporting her upper body on her elbows. “Well, it’s ten in the evening over here…thought I might as well get ready for bed while I was waiting.”

"It is?" Scratching his head, Chris was silent as he took a moment to check something on his own Creature Pod, genuinely puzzled. "Oh… sorry. I meant to call earlier…"

She smiled a little. “I know. It’s okay, you guys were probably busy. It happens.”

He frowned. “Yeah I guess, but still… I’m sorry we weren’t able to do anything special today.”

"Chris, it’s not a big deal. Whether we make any special plans, or if we had just stayed home watching a movie eating take-out, it wouldn’t have mattered to me."

"Yeah, I know, but…" He sighed, rubbing the back of his neck as guilt seemed to overtake his expression. "I’m not even there, so we can’t even do that. I mean, I like where I am and what I’m doing now…but I’m sorry I wasn’t there with you today.”

She smiled gently. “Chris, it’s okay…really. That you called at all means so much to me. It doesn’t matter what we do, just as long as we’re doing something together.”

He glanced up at her, and after a moment managed to return her smile. “Yeah…okay…But I still wanna make it up to you. When I get back, I promise we’ll do something special.”

"I’m looking forward to it." Then she shifted a little so she could rest her chin in her hands. "So, tell me about the eagle. Did you manage to find it?"

The corners of his lips turned up in a brighter grin. “Not yet. They’re critically endangered, so they’re pretty hard to find. But it’ll be worth it to find the second largest eagle in the world!”

Fluttershy smiled, making herself comfortable to listen in contentment as Chris continued. Because listening to her boyfriend talking creatures was definitely the perfect way to spend her evening.
