Summary: 'I’ll be right here to lean on, you’re gonna make it through. I wanna see you keep believing.'
Keep Believing
It was a rather gloomy day outside today. As I was looking out the window, I thought it was going to rain. As I stepped outside, a gust of wind blew at me, arousing my long, black hair. It did seem like it was going to rain.
Out of the corner of my eye, I saw Tira standing there, leaning against the wall of the Stella Church. I smiled, and was about to call out to her, but stopped when I noticed the sad aura around her. Something was wrong.
I approached her cautiously, not wanting to startle her. Gently, I placed my hand on her shoulder. She didn’t say anything, nor did she try to pull away from me. But I felt her tremble slightly.
“Tira?” I said softly. “What’s wrong?”
“N…n-nothing,” she sniffled. “I-I’m f-fine.”
Knowing well enough that she wasn’t fine as she said she was, I gently removed her large glasses. She looked up at me, her pink eyes full of tears and surprise.
When I look into your sad eyes
It makes me feel for you
‘Cuz I don’t see the light
That was always shining through
“Normally, I would believe you, Tira,” I said, placing her glasses in her hand. “However, your eyes tell me otherwise. Now, why don’t you tell me what’s really bothering you?”
A small sob escaped her lips, as she dried her tears with the sleeve of her red coat. “Your brother’s a jerk,” she said suddenly, the anger dripping from her voice.
“My brother? Why would you say that?”
“Because he is.” She dried more of her tears. “Carrot doesn’t care who he hurts.”
“That’s not true, Tira, and you know it.”
She turned away from me.
“Tell me, what happened?”
“He was just being himself, as always.”
“But that’s never upset you like this before.”
“I told him this morning how I felt about him.” Tears began to slide down her cheeks. “Then I saw him this afternoon flirting with a bunch of girls. When I asked him about it, he told me that he liked me, just not in the way I liked him.”
“So you became upset with him, and angry enough to say that about him?”
She sniffled, shaking her head. “I didn’t mean that. I was just upset.”
I wiped her tears away with my finger. “So what are you going to do now?”
“What can I do? Carrot doesn’t like me that way, and I can’t force him to. I should just give up on love altogether.”
Someone broke your heart
And now it’s easy to give up
I’m telling you, it’s not the end
It’s not the end of love
“Love is a strange feeling, Tira,” I said. “It works in ways that we couldn’t begin to understand. But just because Brother doesn’t feel the same way you do about him, that doesn’t mean you should give up on love completely.”
She looked up at me. “Marron?”
“So the feeling you had for my brother didn’t work out. But just because you’ve had a little bad luck, that doesn’t mean you should give up forever.”
Keep believing, baby
‘Cuz everything happens for a reason
And though tonight tears fill your eyes
Don’t stop dreaming girl
I’ll be right here to lean on
You’re gonna make it through
I wanna see you
Keep believing
She turned away. “But who would like someone like me?” she asked.
“What do you mean?”
“Carrot would always chase pretty girls, Marron. Since he didn’t like me, what does that mean about me?”
“Stop it,” I said suddenly.
“Stop what?”
“I know what you’re thinking, and it’s not true. You are very beautiful, and if my brother couldn’t see that, then something must be terribly wrong with him.”
“You’re just saying that.”
“I’m saying it because it’s true. You have the prettiest eyes I have ever seen.”
She blushed slightly. “Really?”
I nodded. “But I would have to say, I believe the most attractive feature about you is your beautiful smile.”
Has anybody every told you
How beautiful you truly are
How just one smile from you
Can open up any heart
She looked down at the ground. “Do you mean that?” she asked quietly.
“Of course I do. Why would I ever lie to you?”
She giggled slightly. “It’s just that I never thought you, of all people, would say something like that.”
“I say things when I find them necessary to say. And even then, I would never lie about what I feel.”
“But why are you telling me these things?”
“Because it’s true.” I brushed some of her pink locks out of her face. “And I don’t want to see you upset anymore.”
“But what am I going to do now?”
“I suppose you would keep looking for that someone just for you.”
You deserve that too
Let somebody lift you up
You gotta know, somewhere out there
You’re gonna find love, yeah
“But how do I know that there’s someone out there for me?” she asked. “How do I know there’s someone who would care about me like that?”
“Everyone has someone just for them. It’s just a matter of finding that person.”
“But what if I get tired of searching that I just give up?”
“You have to believe, Tira, that they’re searching for you as well.”
She just looked at me, thinking about my words, before embracing me tightly, leaning her head against my shoulder. I said nothing. I simply held her, allowing her to draw comfort from me.
Keep believing, baby
‘Cuz everything happens for a reason
And though tonight tears fill your eyes
Don’t stop dreaming girl
I’ll be right here to lean on
You’re gonna make it through
I wanna see you
I stroked her hair gently, as the wind passed us by. It suddenly stopped, and the gray clouds in the sky parted, making way for the sun as its light beamed down on the earth.
We both looked up at the now blue sky. Tira pulled away from me, continuing to look at the clouds moving away from the yellow orb in the sky.
I came up behind her. “I promise you, Tira,” I whispered in her ear, “that your sky will clear up as well, and you’ll find someone who will care for you as much as you care about them.”
Keep believing, just have faith
I promise you the clouds will break
And someday soon
You’ll see the sun
And find that someone
She giggled, turning around to look at me. “Thanks Marron,” she said, “but as talented as you are in Eastern Magic, not even you can tell the future.”
“I don’t have to be able to tell the future in order to know that, Tira,” I replied. “I know someday, you’ll find someone for you. Until then, know that I’ll always be here for you if you want to talk.”
Keep believing
‘Cuz everything happens for a reason
And though tonight tears fill your eyes
Don’t stop dreaming girl
I’ll be right here to lean on
You’re gonna make it through
I wanna see you
Keep believing
And for the first time since I started talking to her, she smiled. “Thank you, Marron,” she said, wiping a few more, happier, tears from her eyes. “I don’t know how I can ever thank you enough.”
“I just don’t want to see you upset anymore, Tira. You’re one of my best friends, and I’ll do whatever I can to see that you are happy.”
“But do you think that there is someone out there, waiting for me?”
I smiled softly. “Of course I do, Tira. Until you find him, you’ll have to just search for him. But never stop thinking that, okay?”
She nodded, embracing me. “Thank you so much, Marron.”
I placed a light kiss on her cheek. “You’re very welcome, Tira.”
Keep believing
Keep believing
